GRAHAM Taylor was disappointed with his side's committment.
"Blackburn have got some very good attacking players but we knew that before the game.
"Having said that, if you can get at them, then I think you can have some joy but we never did that tonight with any real conviction.
"I thought our play was poor and we never got into what is arguably the weaker part of their side.
"We tried to make some changes at half-time and I think that helped us because we had far more of the play in the second half.
"But even then we still did very little to cause Blackburn problems at all.
"So following on the back of a good display against West Ham, that was very disappointing.
"We were second to everything on the night and when that happens you don't feel very happy."
"So the problem I have between now and the end of the season is to find out whether an Aston Villa side which is currently seventh are good enough to move on or whether it needs drastically overhauling.
"On this performance tonight, though, you would have to say we are not good enough."
Graeme Souness was pleased with his team's performance, he said: "I thought we played very, very well in the first half and could have scored three or four more in that period.
"But suddenly the nerves set in after the break and we found ourselves on the rack before Duffer finally got the second to kill the game off."
