SCOTT McKay assaulted two police officers as he was being arrested for shoplifting.
Blackburn magistrates heard that McKay punched one officer and then head butted another on the nose.
But when he was sober enough to be interviewed McKay said he could not remember anything.
McKay, 25, of Ciceley Court, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to shoplifting and two charges of police assault.
He was remanded in custody until March 18 for the preparation of pre-sentence reports.
District judge Bridgette Knight said the first option for the sentencing bench should be a custodial sentence. Roger Pickles, defending, said his client has a major drink problem.
