MOTORISTS given the hump by traffic calming measures are invited to have their say on the new chicanes and bumps appearing on Leigh's roads.
Wigan Council has appointed a select committee of back-bench councillors to put the question of slowing down the borough's vehicles in the spotlight.
The committee will be consulting a wide range of organisations including the council's traffic engineers, schools and the emergency services.
It will also examine the criteria for introducing the schemes and compare Wigan's action with other councils.
But the committee is also keen to hear from other road users including parents and residents, motorists and pedestrians to get the views of everyone affected by the measures.
Extra money
Committee chair Cllr Sue Loudon said: "With the government giving councils a lot of extra money to pay for local road safety schemes, traffic calming measures are becoming more common.
"We know that many residents are calling for their own streets to be calmed, but at the same time we see criticism from drivers about the growing trend towards road build-outs, chicanes and humps."
Anyone who wishes to comment can send their views to John Waters, Finance and IT department, Civic Centre, Millgate, Wigan, e-mail j.waters@wiganmbc.gov.uk, and all responses will be acknowledged.
The final report will hopefully be produced in time for consideration by the council in May.
