LEIGH Centurions have been cleared of blame following reports of crowd trouble at the end of their Challenge Cup tie against Whitehaven two weeks ago.
A group of Whitehaven supporters claimed they had been attacked by Leigh fans wielding baseball bats, been spat on and been hit by flying bottles.
But after meeting between the Centurions, the Rugby League, Greater Manchester Police and the local authority, none of the claims were substantiated.
After studying CCTV footage from Hilton Park they concluded that only one incident did take place and that was dealt with by stewards at the ground.
RFL spokesman John Huxley confirmed: "We have had a meeting with Leigh, GM Police and Wigan Council and are completely satisfied that there was not a serious incident as suggested in some media.
"We are happy with the explanations given to us and that Leigh are reviewing their security procedures."
The news comes as a significant boost to the Centurions as they prepare for their all-ticket Kellogg's Nutri-Grain Challenge Cup against Wigan on March 17.
