A KEVIN Bretherton goal 15 minutes from time earned Leigh Avenue a place in the final of the Redwaters Coronation Cup with a 1-0 semi-final win over Courts.

In the one remaining Round Two tie, two strikes from Ryan Shaw on 21 and 40 minutes saw Rope and Anchor beat Horns Inn 2-0.

Higher Folds may be about to relinquish their Division One title to league new boys Kersal Vale but they did extract some sort of consolation with a 6-2 quarter-final victory in the league cup.

John Smith gave Vale a sixth minute lead from the penalty spot which Adrian Darwen cancelled out on 16 minutes also from a spot kick.

Folds then went on the rampage with Neil Clayton scoring twice, Warren Knowles, Steve Ashbrooke and Jason Caldwell one each before Mike Phillips got a second consolation goal for Kersal three minutes into injury time.

In the Davenport Cup second half goals from Scott Roberts on 52 minutes and Rob Houghton on 70 gave Atherton Royal a 2-0 quarter final victory at Asda Golborne.
