A SPEEDING motorcyclist who smashed into a bus suffered a smashed pelvis and three broken ribs.

Burnley Magistrates heard how nobody else was injured in the crash in which Craig Oldfield ended up under the bus.

Oldfield, who accepted the accident was his fault, admitted driving without due care and attention, last July.

The defendant, of Clay Street, Burnley, was fined £150, given eight penalty points, banned from driving for 12 months and must pay £35 costs.

Tom Snape, prosecuting, said the bus driver was on Coal Clough Lane, Burnley, where cars were parked on both sides, when he saw a motorcyclist travelling towards him at what he estimated to be 60mph.

He stopped his vehicle, Oldfield braked hard, turned the bike onto its left side, skidded across the road and hit the bus.

Mr Snape said when Oldfield was cautioned, he told police they were all against him and it wasn't his fault.

He was asked to provide a statement about what happened but refused to co-operate.

An accident investigator was called in and said the defendant had been going too fast to stop safely and the crash was caused by judgemental error.

John Nuttall, defending, said Oldfield accepted what happened was his fault.

He accepted he was going over the speed limit but was travelling between 35 and 40mph according to police.

The defendant, who had simply gone to the shops on his motorbike, came round the bend, saw the bus and simply had nowhere to go.
