PENDLE people have been receiving advice on how they could save energy and claim up to £2,500 on heating improvements this week by visiting the Warm Front bus in Nelson town centre.

The council teamed up with the Energy Action Grants Agency to help people get government grants which could reduce their heating bills by up to £600 per year.

Pendle's Affordable Warmth Strategy shows that residents in 8,000 homes in the borough are suffering fuel poverty.

Energy Efficiency Officer Stephen Whittaker said: "Thousands of people could benefit and I urge people to get in touch with us on 01282 611088 to find out if they are eligible for grants for improvements such as loft insulation and draught proofing."

People who may be eligible include those on income or disability related benefits, pregnant women, people in the wards of Whitefield, Bradley, Walverden, Marsden and Southfield in Nelson, Waterside in Colne and Brierfield, who are over 60 or on benefits and people suffering long-term illnesses.
