THE north west's first skincare website is to be launched in Lancaster next week.

The website at www.bayskincare.org.uk, will provide information and advice on conditions such as eczema.

According to the National Eczema Society, around 12,000 people in Lancashire suffer with the condition.

" That's a lot of individuals and families who need access to information and support that could make a real difference to their lives," said Jane Morgan, the society's regional manager for the north-west.

RLI dermatologist, Professor Philip Harrison, who helped to design the website, said: "We are seeing more and more cases of eczema - a three fold increase in the last 30 years - so we hope the skin care website will provide extra support and guidance for local people affected by the condition."

The website is to be officially launched next Wednesday at an information evening to be held at the Royal Kings Arms Hotel.

The evening, entitle 'eczema - the experience' includes demonstrations from the RLI's dermatology sisters, a question and answer session with Professor Harrison and an opportunity to talk to representatives.

Jane Morgan added: "It is very common for people with eczema - or their carers - to feel isolated, misunderstood and even depressed.

"The north west has a very strong network of support groups and volunteers who have experienced eczema themselves and can offer a valuable listening ear and access to the National Eczema Society."

Wednesday's event starts at 7pm.
