THE hills of Ramsbottom will come alive with the sound of music today (Fri March 8).

Local schools and musicians from near and far will be competing in the tenth Ramsbottom Music Festival.

This year the festival committee have introduced two new classes; the electric organ and light vocal alongside the usual primary instrumental, choral, piano, string, brass and woodwind classes.

The festival will be staged in Ramsbottom Civic Hall and Woodhey High School.

Alison Good, chairman of Ramsbottom Music Festival, said: "I would like to give a warm welcome to all those participating in this, the tenth Ramsbottom Music Festival. Once again we have had a busy and enjoyable year.

"Thanks to Marshalls Mono who give generously each year and continue to be our main sponsor. And thanks also, of course, to all committee members who give generously of their free time and organisational skills."

Ramsbottom Music Festival will culminate with "A Festival Concert" which will class winners from the music festival.

The concert, which will be held in The Frank Bennett Hall at Woodhey High School, will be on Saturday, March 16 at 7.30pm.

Tickets are priced £3 and £1.50 for children and OAPs.
