INDIE band Polestar have secured a management deal less than a fortnight after a brilliant performance at Burnley's Mechanics -- an it's all thanks to a taxi ride.

Although the Accrington five-piece won the contract on merit, they would never have been at the gig but for a chance meeting.

Frontman and taxi driver Noddy Baxter, revealed he had being singing in his cab while, unknown to him Alan Cottam of Soundfield UK, was listening in the back.

Impressed with the strength of Noddy's voice, Cottam took copies of the band's demos and his company was instantly convinced they had something to offer.

He just needed to see the lads -- who are singer/guitarist Noddy, guitarists Paul Eke and Mark Mcloughlin, bassist Carl Binner and drummer Paul Ryan -- play live.

Polestar were added to the bill of a showcase of East Lancashire talent. And following a powerful performance the deal was completed over the weekend.

Having been together for nearly two years, the lads disguise their influences well. Individually inspired by the likes of The Smiths, Pink Floyd, Crowded House and Shed Seven, the addition of Noddy's guitars has provided a new dimension to their music.

Noddy said: "Sixteen months ago I couldn't play a note on the guitar but we were essentially a band with two rhythm guitarists doing similar things so I made the conscious decision to pick it up and learn it. I don't play on every song, but the acoustic guitar definitely helps fill out the sound, leaving Paul to concentrate on lead and freeing Mark up to do his thing."

Delighted with the Soundfield deal, he added: "They share the same goal as us and that's to get the band signed."

Polestar play Blackburn's North Bar tonight, supporting Fi-lo Radio.
