NELSON boss John Bailey refuses to throw in the towel despite his side's inconsistent season.

After two season's where the Blues were fighting for promotion, this term hasn't gone to plan with Nelson struggling in a mid-table position.

But Bailey insists: "I won't throw in the towel yet. I want a top six finish and there are still 14 games to go.

"We have said all along we need to put a run together and I am sure plenty of sides around us will be hoping the same.

"There are still a lot of points to play for."

Next up at Victoria Park tomorrow is Chadderton.

"They are like us, a mid-table side who will hope to get up among it," said Bailey. "They were thrashed 5-0 midweek although they beat Padiham last Saturday. I am just glad it is at our place as their pitch is not the best.

"But the story of our season has been that we haven't been putting away the chances we have created. We have not turned possession into goals and that has been our downfall.

"We had Lee Coldridge, Micky Bartholomew and used a reserve player John Whiteside up front in the draw against Leek at the weekend and we had plenty of opportunities.

"They had two chances, scored one and came away with a point.

"We just need a bit of luck in the box but it isn't all about luck, we just haven't been able to kill teams off this season."
