REGARDING the re-vamping of St Anne's Church Hall in Tottington, I would like to add my opinion, now that members of the PCC are once again keen to demolish it.

I wonder why the present building cannot be repaired and adapted to provide this "much-needed facility in the village" which will "enhance the community spirit". Or am I missing the point?

The concern of the members of the PCC for village life is touching, but it leads me to wonder why they are so intent on creating a modern, inelegant eyesore at the expense of a building which is a familiar and attractive landmark to everyone.

I don't know if I am alone in thinking that the general opinion of the "man in the street" would surely be to fund the extensive repair of the existing building rather than to considerably change its external appearance. The members of the PCC would still be able to pat themselves on the back, quite justifiably, for preserving a worthwhile part of Tottington's history. They don't need an ostentatious monstrosity in the heart of the village to remind them of their thankless toiling.

Tottington's character is beginning to flag as it is, so please don't accelerate its demise.
