MUCH is being made of Labour-controlled Lancashire County Council's attitude towards the closure of homes for the elderly and, on a more local note, the closure of Oswaldtwistle fire station, which will put an unnecessary risk on the lives of the local community.
We are led to believe that no decision has been made about either the homes or the fire station and that any decision will not be taken until July.
Rather convenient really -- wait till after the local elections on May 2 seems the order of the day. Much in the same way the decision to pay county council cabinet members £26,000 a year was never mentioned in the county election campaign last year.
I feel that these decisions are already made and will be announced, as planned, in July. Once again, the people are being conned by Labour-controlled Lancashire County Council.
JOHN FARRER, Mallard Place, Oswaldtwistle.
