POLICE today warned youngsters to be on their guard after a man tried to abduct a 12-year-old girl.
The girl had been walking down Holme Road, Burnley towards Todmorden Road on her way home at about 7.45pm on Friday night.
A white van - believed to be Ford - pulled up alongside her and the white male driver asked whether she wanted any cigarettes.
The girl said 'no' and walked away but the driver attempted to grab her through the passenger door.
The police have no description of the driver.
Detective Sergeant Peter Simm, of Burnley Police, said: "This attack is concerning and worrying and we're making inquiries into it."
He said the incident had raised so much concern that police were visting schools in the area to warn them about it and to ensure pupils and parents were vigilant.
