A PRESTON DJ who started out as an English language student is getting a shot at the big time after being picked to play at one of the most famous clubs in the world.
George Thompson, 26, launched the nightclub Feel eight years ago with fellow student Tim Pearson when they were at the University of Central Lancashire. The club, which runs every fortnight at the Student Union, in Fylde Road, took off and resident DJ George shot to fame.
But George's dream came true when superclub Cream, based in Liverpool, asked Feel to host part of a special Easter event in Blackpool.
He said: "Cream were looking for someone local to play, so they approached us. That was like a dream come true. It's about as good as it gets.
"If you had told me eight years ago what I would be doing now I wouldn't have believed you!"
George will be playing at Cream's tenth anniversary bash in the resort's Empress Ballroom.
The rising star, who has even worked with smash-hit singer Dido, has been snapped up by a top London music agency who also have Boy George on their books. Earlier this year he was voted 134th best disc spinner in the country in a poll by DJ magazine.
And George can't wait for the Easter Cream event. He said: "I remember going to the Empress Ballroom and thinking at the time I'd love to DJ there. It's one of the best venues in the UK to hold a club night as it's so decadent and gorgeous."
Tickets for March 30 at Blackpool Winter Gardens are £23. Call 0870 2427326 or 0870 9020001.
