CLITHEROE'S season was summed up in one game at Winsford.
Lee Sculpher's men made a poor start, picked up and played some excellent football but missed chances and were ultimately hit by a late goal.
That really is the story of the Blues NWCL Division One campaign so far.
In a game played in a howling gale, Sculpher's men had the wind in their favour in the opening 45 minutes but rarely threatened to make it count.
But 10 minutes from time Clitheroe took the lead when a Mark Stewart long throw into the box was smashed home by Richard Fogarty with a spectacular overhead kick.
Despite that tonic Sculpher gave his players a half-time roasting.
"We had not passed the ball well at all and looked weary. The two games in midweek looked to have taken their toll," said Sculpher.
"But after the break we started to play some great stuff despite having to play into the wind."
Martin Aspinwall was a constant threat on the flank and Neil Spencer and Carl Greenwood both forced excellent saves from the Winsford keeper.
Then in the 89th minute Sculpher failed to clear with a header and Winsford's Danny Worthington forced the ball home from the ensuing scramble.
"It was disappointing because we played well enough in the second half to have come back with all three points," said Sculpher.
"If games lasted just 85 minutes we would have a lot more points this season -it is happening to us too often."
