WHILE results are going against Bacup at the moment manager Brent Peters is hoping their future is in good hands.
Facing one of the high-riding sides in Alsager his team, with more than a sprinkling of young talent, only fell due to two minutes of madness late in the second half.
"If there is one thing to come out of the game it is that our lads put up a fight against a good side," said Peters.
"We have teenagers and players who are only just 20 and they weren't afraid to fight and put a foot in.
"Alsager are a strong side both in terms of ability and physical presence and, with Gary Lloyd's experience helping them, we did well.
"The game was well balanced and we looked to be heading for a draw and, while it is frustrating to be defeated, I am pleased with the way we competed."
While Bacup keeper Adam Potts had to be on his mettle to deny a couple of Alsager efforts, the West View side matched their rivals with Stuart Grimshaw, Stuart Farnell, Damon Gledhill and Nicky Taylor all going close.
But on 72 minutes Bacup came unstuck when a ball that was being guided out near the corner flag hit the stick allowed the Alsager winger to whip the ball across the face of goal where the final touch was administered.
Two minutes later the failure to clear from a corner cost Bacup dearly and they were two down.
Peters will be looking for the learning curve to take a healthier outlook when his side travel to Squires Gate tomorrow night.
