STEVE Waywell has challenged striker Dino Maamria to set the record straight against Morecambe tonight after his red card shame for Leigh RMI on Saturday writes Martin Hyndley
Maamria was dismissed in injury time after a scuffle with Terry Angus against Nuneaton Borough and looks set for a three game suspension, so the manager wants to see the former Southport forward help them in their relegation battle.
"Dino has apologised for the way he behaved", Waywell admitted.
"I know that that isn't really enough because in the modern day, if you get some rough treatment you just have to bite your lip and try not to get involved. Disciplinary action will be taken once I have spoken to the Chairman but I consider that to be an end to the matter.
"I've just lost him for three games due to injury and now for another three through suspension so I hope that he can do his talking on the pitch now and help us towards our 50-point target."
Maamria's place in the side will be subject to a late fitness test ahead of this Lancashire derby, which has seen the Railwaymen emerge with all the points in each of the last three league meetings. Tony Black, Gerry Harrison and Dave Ridings will also be under the physio's scrutiny at the last minute after missing Saturday's game through injury.
Waywell is far from certain about his starting line-up and knows that the rivals from up the M6 will be no pushovers despite recent meetings indicating otherwise.
"Our record against them counts for nothing," he said.
"We are both capable of beating each other on our day and they will certainly be up for the game because they will feel as though they 'owe us one'. They have an important Trophy game on Saturday and all of their players will be keen to make an impression so it should be a good game."
The match kicks-off at 7.45pm at Hilton Park, which was heavily criticised by Waywell on Saturday for having a 'disgraceful' pitch.
