MISTY clouds swept through the Royal Exchange giving a magical air to this production of A Midsummer Night's Dream.
Shakespeare's tale of love and loss in the land of mortals and fairies, is brought to life with dashes of contemporary Britain infused with dramatic lighting and pyrotechnics.
As the tale unfolds of the love tangle between Demetrius, Lysander, Helena and Hermia, we are taken into the fairy kingdom of Oberon (Paul McEwan) and Titania (Hilary Maclean).
Director Lucy Bailey brings a floating chaise longue, a chariot based around a car and a set design plucked from the depths of a forest glen.
This production powers along at a sparkling pace, despite being nearly three hours long, and is well worth checking out.
