LIVERPOOL and England ace Jamie Redknapp is the latest star to get behind the campaign to save Bury Football Club from extinction.

Jamie took time off from training to sign up for a seat. His support follows both Manchester United and City's decision to back the Shakers' campaign.

City boss Kevin Keegan, who started his illustrious career in the lower divisions with Scunthorpe United, and his players pledged £2,500 to the cause at the weekend.

Meanwhile over on the red side of town, Sir Alex Ferguson, Bury brothers Gary and Phil Neville and the family of England skipper David Beckham have also bought the £10 seats that are keeping the wolves from the door.

Former Shakers skipper Chris Lucketti is one of the latest ex-Bury favourites to have contributed and the fund has just been boosted with the introduction of an on-line seat buying system.

More than £2,500 was raised in just a few hours after the system went on-line yesterday morning with people from USA, Canada, Australia and buying seats with their credit cards.

"It's been absolutely incredible," said Shakers website boss Gordon Sorfleet.

"We just haven't got enough numbers working here to cope with the demand.

"There are backlogs of e-mails coming off the system constantly and they all have to be filed individually.

"Our best estimate is that we are close, or have hit, the £100,000 total," he said yesterday afternoon.
