CLITHEROE have put seven days on Rossendale United's former Burnley defender Jason Heffernen.
Heffernen, who plays at left-back, is seen as the perfect permanent replacement for the former Blues defender Barrie Hart, who made the successful transition to Accrington Stanley earlier this season.
Blues manager Lee Sculpher can speak to Heffernen on Thursday and hopes to be able to convince the player to make the move from the UniBond first division club to Shawbridge in time for Saturday's North West Counties first division game at home to Maine Road.
With midfielder Neil Reynolds probably out for the season with a knee injury, Sculpher needs to boost his squad.
Ironically, Rossendale United had put seven days on Reynolds last week but a switch of the two players between the two clubs looks unlikely.
"Jason would give us several options," said Sculpher. "We could move Andy Cowking into midfield and play Mark Stewart at centre half.
"Neil said he wouldn't have gone to Rossendale anyway but he definitely won't be going now because of his injury."
