THE beauty of the internet is that you can zip around sites on a subject, yet take in a range of different styles.

For example a quick tour of railway art proved an interesting journey. First stop was an old

Lancashire railway station brought back to life through refurbishment work recorded as it happened by artist Chris Rigby.

The Silverdale-based painter has spent the last year sketching images of Carnforth station in its derelict state before restoration work.

The paintings can be viewed at www.carnforth-station.co.uk.

For a more mainstream viewing of rail art, visit the Railway Artists Guild site at www.railart.co.uk.

The guild represents artists 'who depict our heritage on the rails' and opens with a colourful picture of the lines between Preston and Carlisle.

Canada's railways, which feature on most travel brochures, are also celebrated online. The coast-to-coast

network formed a major chapter in the country's history and attracts tourists from around the globe.

There is still a romantic side to rail travel that seems to be alive and well in many minds.

Where there's romance, there's art. See www.trainscan.com for memorabilia and more.
