A 'COMMUNITY chest' of regeneration money has been opened up for groups in rural areas.
Projects or community organisations in the East Rural ward of Darwen can apply for grants of up to £600 for equipment, materials, professional fees, transport costs or volunteer expenses.
About £5,000 of the £75,000 regeneration money given to the ward has been made available for these grants.
The rest of the cash will be spent over the next three years on larger projects like traffic calming, open play areas and environmental improvements.
The cash given to the East Rural ward is part of a government pilot scheme to improve services in rural areas.
Application forms for the £600 grants are available by calling Coun Fred Slater on 07798 742 030, or Gwen Kinlock on 01254 587385. The closing date is March 25.
