A BRAVE Culcheth woman is preparing for the challenge of her lifetime -- a 10-day trek in Canada.
Following a fight to overcome breast cancer Barbara Pimbley has pledged to raise £2,000 for charity by trekking through the Chilcotin Mountain region, north of Vancouver.
Barbara, of Newland Mews, is a keen walker and spends weekends hiking with the Anchor Ramblers, now she is taking up extra training at the gym to prepare herself for September, when Canada 2002 begins.
Also taking the challenge is Barbara's Warrington social services colleague, Lisa Omar.
The money raised by the pair and other volunteers will go to the Youth Hostels Association, to support their work developing Youth Hostels and enabling disadvantaged children and young people to enjoy a break at a Youth Hostel.
She said: "This is an exceptional challenge for me as just 12 months ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer and had surgery followed by radiotherapy. I am now back to full strength and wish to use my valued time to help raise money for this very good cause."
Barbara has organised a variety of events to help raise the money including pub quizzes and fun nights. Anyone wishing to donate or sponsor her can contact her on 01925 767109.
