A MAN died of a suspected heart attack while cooking on Sunday (March 10), sparking a fire that was put out by Bury ambulanceman Nick Sutcliffe.
The senior paramedic's former training as a firefighter was called upon when he reached Mr Joseph Hale's home in Hollins Lane, Bury, at 9.40am.
Before attempting to resuscitate the collapsed man, Mr Sutcliffe extinguished a small grill fire.
Mr Sutcliffe was unavailable for comment on the incident, although his role in extinguishing the fire was confirmed by Bury fire service.
A post mortem was due to take place yesterday to establish how the 65-year-old died.
Mr Hale's wife, Jane, was being comforted by friends and family.
