NEXT stop for the Heywood Model Railway Group is Bury's Holy Cross College.

It will be full steam ahead for the popular organisation when it holds its annual exhibition on Saturday and Sunday (March 16-17) at the new venue.

Steven Smith, exhibition manager, said: "The show was formerly held in Whitworth but has been moved to Bury due to public demand for a larger exhibition at a more central location.

"We are aiming to make this year's show a real family event, while still attracting mainstream enthusiasts through the display of 17 working layouts."

He added: "Working motive power on the layouts will portray steam, diesel and electric locomotives, plus two electronic tramways, although younger enthusiasts may just be content to drive Thomas the Tank Engine on his own layout."

Mr Smith said he is anxious Heywood Model Railway Group makes a name for itself throughout the Bury area and is hopeful the organisation can continue to hold its exhibitions at Holy Cross for the foreseeable future.

"With the proximity of the East Lancs Railway and Metrolink, I am confident we can achieve this."

Opening times for the exhibition are between 10am and 6pm on Saturday, and 10am to 5pm on Sunday.

Admission is £3 for adults, £2 for senior citizens and £1.50 for children. Family tickets for two adults and two children are £7.50.
