COUNCILLORS in Burnley are continuing to press for a race code.
Under the 2000 Race Relations Amendment Act all local authorities have until the end of May this year to produce a Race Equality Scheme.
The aim is to tackle discrimination and promote equality and good race relations.
A steering group will meet regularly over the next two months to agree and draw up a scheme, which will then be translated into relevant community languages in time for the May 31 deadline.
Councillor Rafique Malik at this week's executive meeting said: "We need to continue to meet and have an equality scheme not just for race but gender, disability and everything."
