CLARETS fan John Batchelor was confirmed today as the new owner of York City Football Club.
The 43-year-old motor racing tycoon, who until recently lived in Revidge Road, Blackburn, beat off rival bids to land the club saving them from bankruptcy.
The former toilet-rolls salesman for System Hygiene, in Altham, is believed to have paid in the region of £4.5million for the club beating off rival parties.
A statement from the club said: "York City are pleased to announce that John Batchelor has today been appointed chairman of the Club.
"There will now be a transition period during which the Club will be re-organising the Board.
"The Club are looking forward to a fresh approach and a renewed impetus".
John, who changed his name to John B&Q after the Honda racing team he owns was sponsored by the DIY giants, said: "I'm delighted, excited and looking forward to the fresh challenge ahead. I also look forward to seeing a packed house against Darlington on Saturday,"
