A STUDENT who clocked up 120mph on the motorway then gave police false details, Burnley Magistrates heard.
The court was told how Mohammed Ayaz, 19, had not realised the vehicle behind him was a police car and had been "paranoid," because he was being followed.
Ayaz, currently on a business information studies course at Leeds University, was fined £150 with £55 costs, conditionally discharged for 12 months and given eight penalty points.
The defendant, of Sefton Street, Brierfield, admitted speeding, obstructing a police officer, not having insurance and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.
Bench chairman Mrs Carole Stinson said she would have thought it was "quite scary," to be doing 120 mph at Ayaz's age.
Andy Robinson, prosecuting, said after the defendant, who had no previous convictions, was stopped by police on the M65, he gave false details. He told them the correct date of birth, but gave the address of his next door neighbour.
David Leach, defending, said Ayaz did not realise it was a police car behind him and became paranoid. He pulled up when the police car put its flashing lights on.
He gave false details simply because he panicked and was embarrassed about being stopped.
