IN response to the recent question from "Brandlesholme Resident", so far as I am aware two councillors use bikes to get to work. That is four per cent of the 48 councillors. If the same proportion of Bury residents between the ages of 18 and 64 (114,000) were to regularly use bikes instead of cars to get to work, that would be more than 4,000 car journeys fewer per day, since most cars carry only the driver.
Having agreed that cycle lanes do not cause road congestion, "Brandlesholme Resident" should now go further and recognise the potential of the humble bike for reducing congestion, as well as reducing unnecesssary fuel use and exhaust emissions, and promoting a healthy lifestyle.
