AUSSIE-based Bury old boy David Brooks is doing his bit to help prevent his cash-stricken former football club from folding by releasing an England anthem in time for the World Cup.

David, who left to play soccer in Australia in 1981, found fame down under in Melbourne with a band called The Music Men.

Now he's putting his musical talents to good use by releasing a CD entitled "Eriksongs, The Thing About Football - England!", along with the "Eriks from the North", made up of fellow lifelong Bury supporters, Mark Barlow and Ken Stephens, and little Eriks, James and Michael Barlow.

The song, which is already proving popular on the terraces at Gigg Lane, is part of a seven-track CD, which is being plugged on the Shakers' official website - www.buryfc.co.uk

The CD is on sale at £5, with £2 going to the Save Our Shakers Fund, which is desperately trying to raise £400,000 to stop the club from folding. Administrators have given the club until today to raise the cash.

David (48), who was on the books with Bury FC from 1968 to 1972, has been a lifelong Shakers supporter.

He even flew back to England for the day when Bury were in the 1994 Third Division play-off final at Wembley.

Although he's back in England following the death of his father, Ernest, David's due to fly back to Australia at the end of the month to appear at an international comedy festival in Melbourne.

He commented: "I couldn't believe the club was in such dire straits financially when I came back home. If we don't raise the money in time, the curtain will come down on 117 years of footballing history.

"I just couldn't sit by and watch that happen. I'm hoping the song will be a huge hit with Shakers supporters and football fans from across the country."
