THIS letter is to thank the people of Lytham and visitors from other towns who contributed most generously at the animal rights/welfare stall recently towards the vet fees for Akeyla, a rescued dog from an abused owner.
He had a fractured elbow and other bone problems which needed specialised treatment but I am glad to say is on the mend and needing a new caring owner. Most of the money will go to Akeyla's vet fees and the rest to animal rights/welfare causes, leaflets, videos of animal abuse etc.
A special thanks to the little old lady who insisted on giving a £1 and the little girl who gave her pocket money because it wasn't fair what some people did to animals -- little gems of a different generation.
To the lady who asked how Jackie and Jason, the two chimpanzees in Southport Zoo, were faring, I contacted Ms P Simpson of Blackpool, the campaigner for the Captive Animals Protection Society who sent me some literature and pictures of the two chimps who look rather sad after being in captivity for more than half their lives.
Terry Stringer,
Knott End.
