THREE people were arrested and drugs believed to be crack cocaine worth £600 was seized in a raid on a house in Ulster Street, Burnley.

A 31-year-old male was charged with possession of a Class B drug, while two other people arrested at the address, a 23-year-old male and a 48-year-old female, have been released on police bail pending the results of forensic examinations.

The raid, which took place on Wednesday at 1pm, was carried out in response to community concerns about the use and supply of drugs.

Inspector John Clucas, of Burnley Police, said: "The warrant was executed as part of the Burnley Residents Against Drugs initiative as a direct result of concerns expressed by local people.

"It was one of a number of recent raids. It will most certainly be followed by more raids as we continue our work to close the net on those who use and supply drugs in local neighbourhoods and in doing so make life difficult for other law-abiding citizens."

"The use and supply of drugs and the level of crime and misery associated with it will not be tolerated by police in Burnley.

"Where we have good quality information from the local community, we will act upon it.

"I would urge anyone who knows anything about any drug related crime to either contact us or give Crimestoppers a ring, free and in confidence on 0800 555 111.

"The fight against drugs is not an easy one and if we are to make real inroads into tackling drugs crime then public support is vital."
