A BURGLAR who helped himself to a £3,300 jewellery haul has been given a three-year jail term.

Burnley Crown Court heard how Nicholas Mulcahy was caught by forensic analysis after leaving fingerprints at the property in Edgeside Lane, Waterfoot.

Mulcahy, currently serving a sentence of three years and 219 days, will serve the new sentence at the same time.

The defendant, of Tong Lane, Bacup, had earlier admitted burglary and asked for two offences of burglary and attempted burglary to be considered.

He had been committed for sentence by Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale Magistrates.

Neil Standage, prosecuting, said a rear window was forced open and a search was carried out of all rooms. Jewellery worth £3,360 was taken.

Mulcahy, who was caught out by his fingerprints, had a lot of burglaries on his criminal record.

Sentencing him, Judge Raymond Bennett said: "You know what the rules are. I don't have to explain them to you. Just bear them in mind when you come out."
