STEVE RUSH has resigned as chairman of Clitheroe.

The Blues supremo cited work commitments as the reason for his departure.

Vice-chairman John Robinson has taken charge of the club.

Rush's decision came just hours after the 1-0 win against NWCL Division One strugglers Maine Road.

Lee Todman deflected a cross beyond his own keeper nine minutes from time to give Clitheroe the points on an afternoon when the home side simply couldn't find the cutting edge.

Lee Sculpher's side dominated from first whistle to last but their enterprising attacking play was let down in and around the Maine Road box.

Neil Spencer was unfortunate to see a shot bounce back off a post while Lee Cryer was just too high with a header as Clitheroe spent the first half camped in opposition territory.

It was a similar story after the break but the chances came and went, Cryer twice denied by good saves.

Ironic then that a comic goal should settle matters, Chris Whittingham's cross arrived too early for the home strikers but Todman's touch proved decisive.

"We played some decent stuff and I don't think anyone could argue with the result," said Sculpher.

"They are in a precarious position and came content to get everyone behind the ball, but we stuck to our plan and deserved the win."

Carl Greenwood faces a long spell on the sidelines after breaking his leg in two places against Curzon Ashton last Thursday night.
