IN 1997 and 1998, I worked as a social worker in Lancashire and saw daily the great work that individuals carried out in looking after the elderly in county-run care homes.
I think it would be a shame for the county council to let such things be privatised, leading to a change of priorities in how the homes for the aged would be run, meaning pounds first, clients and care second, if not third.
Those who deny this should pull their head out of the clouds and look at previous examples in the UK and around the world. These pensioners are the same people who fought for their country during previous wars. This is how they are repaid?
Although I am a foreigner to England, I did work in Burnley, Blackpool and the North West long enough to see that you have many dedicated people who care for the elderly. I hope the council maintains a proper perspective and commitment to the elderly.
