BUSINESS bosses say they are becoming increasingly "tyred" of asking Bury Council officers to help solve a fly-tipping problem.

Dave Halliwell, of DF Commercials, and fellow business owners in Ormond Street, have spent the past fortnight asking environmental services department to remove almost 100 tyres from their street.

They were dumped on February 28 and have since been scattered around the surrounding roads by children.

Mr Halliwell said: "We are sick of this problem. This is not the prettiest area in Bury, but these tyres are making it even more of an eyesore.

"A member of the public alerted the police when he saw the tyres being dumped in Fountain Street North. Kids have now been playing with them and they are strewn all over the place.

"We have made numerous attempts to get Bury Council to sort out the problem but their officers are not bothered."

Bury's environmental services department this week ordered the removal of the tyres and launched a search for the culprits.

Alan Freer, environmental services officer, said: "The matter will be resolved but it will be costly.

"We will be speaking to the business bosses in the Ormond Street area to try and establish who was responsible for dumping the tyres. Once they have been found, enforcement action will begin to recover the cost of the clearance."
