YOUNG, unemployed and elderly people are among those set to benefit from latest £400,000 spending plans.

Members of Burnley Council's executive look likely to approve the pot of spending money from the borough's neighbourhood renewal fund for a dozen projects designed to benefit the community during a meeting tonight.

The biggest single grant of £137,000 will go to the enhanced welfare rights service to fund a dedicated team to ensure those aged 75 and over claim their full benefit entitlement.

It is also proposed that £89,000 be used to fund major work to gather information on local neighbourhoods. All sectors will be allowed to access the information with a view to attracting more resources into Burnley. The community development section improvement programme is due to receive £50,000 to ensure the community has maximum involvement in the way community centres and other council facilities are run.

A wish list, to benefit Barclay and Daneshouse, is also likely to receive £10,000 of funding for community wardens to work with local youngsters.

There are also plans for a £74,000 grant for the community economic development trust based in Daneshouse to pay the organisations operative costs while the training, education and access point is set to get £33,000 to build on its work in the community.
