BURY FC chairman Fred Mason says the entire Shakers playing squad is up for sale to help save the club from extinction.

The club have until April 26 to raise £400,000 or face being placed into liquidation, with creditors demanding repayment for a £1.3million mortgage on Gigg Lane.

A massive fund raising effort from the Save Our Shakers campaign has already raised around £200,000 but co-chairman Fred Mason said more drastic measures might be needed to meet the deadline.

"Every player has his price. It's no different to any other club of our size and in our predicament," he said.

"We've raised about £200,000 in 12 days but there has not been one player sold. We still have to get to £400,000 before the end of the season and it will be a miracle if we don't have to sell a player."

The SOS campaign was boosted at the weekend when Brighton fans donated £3,780 to a collection held at the Withdean Stadium before Saturday's game.

Tim Carder, chairman of the Albion Supporters' Club, who organised the collection said the club felt very strongly about the plight of their Division Two colleagues.

"It was a superb day and I am thrilled that Albion have continued to contribute towards Bury's appeal," he said.

"Shakers fans will have left Sussex disappointed with the result on the field, but buoyed by the knowledge that we do care about the fate of their club.

"The whole of football is diminished when any club goes under."

Preston North End will now take up the mantle by matching any monies raised by a bucket collection held ahead of the Division One clash with Crewe at Deepdale tonight.

Bury's first on-line memorabilia auction has proved such a huge success that organiser Gordon Sorfleet has launched a second for this week.

An amazing £2,689 was raised in the three-day auction, with 328 bids for the 34 available lots.

The biggest price in the first auction was the £600 that was paid for a replica England shirt signed by the international squad from the recent friendly match against Holland.

The shirt was donated by Bury-born Manchester United star Phil Neville.

Kevin Keegan's first England jersey and a signed Arsenal shirt are among the top attractions this week. The auction can be found at www.buryfc.co.uk.

Albion have been at the forefront of Bury's fundraising campaign, handing over more cash for the 'Buy a Seat' appeal than any other football club.
