A GROUP set up to try to improve standards in Rossendale Council, has published examples of how it feels the council is failing to meet its commitments
Rossendale Chartists presented its findings in a report for the Audit Commission last month and is now making them public.
Chartist member Brenda Wilkinson, who compiled and edited the report, said: "We didn't prepare the report with an idea of publishing it. Indeed, it was done at very short notice. However, members think it is an important record that should be more widely available."
Alan Johnson, chairman of the Chartists, said: "This report is essential reading for all people planning to be candidates for the May election as well as for citizens of Rossendale. We hope that prospective candidates will be amongst the first to buy a copy. The examples in the report come from our members and also from other community groups in Rossendale.
"Since the report was written, people who have signed our petition have given us many other examples of the same types of problems that we have recorded." The report, called Our Council is not Working, is for sale at a price of £2. Cheques should be made payable to the Rossendale Chartists. Copies can be obtained by phoning 01706 231522 or at Lords Butchers on Bank Street.
