IN regard to the redevelopment of Church Street in Blackburn, we were told at the start that the cost would be £2million, then in a short space of time the figure jumped 25 per cent to £2.5million.

This is only a very short street and nothing has changed since the first figure was mentioned. It is still the same length, width and depth.

One half of the street has been made into a car park, not for use of the pedestrians as we first thought.

It is the most expensive car park ever made in this country.

Vehicles still have access at the top end which, in fact, makes the street shorter still.

If ever there was a foul-up in the centre of a town this is surely it.

Traffic is the lifeblood on all towns' thoroughfares.

I wonder what the final cost will be?
