GOLDEN Jubilee party organisers in Burnley may have to pay £50 to close their roads.

Burnley councillors last night did not reach a decision on whether to charge people who have applied for temporary road closures for celebrations in June.

The fee is one of a set of guidelines which also recommend organisers pay public liability insurance of £5 million.

Also required is proof of consultation with their neighbours in their applications and police are notified of arrangements.

Councillor Gordon Birtwistle said: "At £50 a time for a road closure, there won't be any money coming in.

"People will just close their roads and have a party."

Councillors agreed to wait until after May 3, the closing date for party applications, to decide whether it was worth charging the number of groups who had applied.

It was revealed that so, far only, three applications had been received by the council.
