LOCAL people are to be asked to help recreate an ancient path and dry stone wall, after £20,000 lottery cash was secured to fund a major new project.
The pathway, which runs from Carwood Farm to Hilltop Lane, Whittle-le-Woods, has over the years run into a state of disrepair.
The path used to be an old coach road which ran through to Blackburn about 300 years ago but was cut off by the Leeds and Liverpool Canal when that was built.
The money has been awarded by the lottery-funded Local Heritage Initiative.
The aim is to attract local volunteers as well as expert teachers to complete the many projects.
Parish council clerk Margaret Ward, said: "We want people from the village to learn to dry stone wall and the section near the village we want to make accessible to disabled people.
"We also want to get a lot of people in the village involved in researching the history of the footpath to create an information leaflet and create an information board."
The path will also require one or two more seats with local school children being asked to design one and someone will be needed to take photographs throughout the project.
