ROSSENDALE United felt the full force of big-spending Harrogate Town's attacking options as they were well and truly outclassed by the table toppers.
Dale were 4-0 down at half time as the home team took full advantage of some nervous defending.
Both Dave Merris and Robbie Whellens had gone close for the home side before Ian Blackstone took advantage of a defensive error to open the scoring on 11 minutes.
Just five minutes later a swift counter attacking move brought the second for Michael Ord after Chris Brooks' effort on the Harrogate goal had been blocked by the outstanding Neil Aspin.
Jerome Fitzgerlad had a dipping free kick tipped over by Ashley Connor, before Blackstone thumped home number three at the back post.
Dave Merris made it four with a drive across Andrews after just 33 minutes, and Dale were happy to go in at the break just four down.
To their credit Dale fought back well in the second half and enjoyed large periods of play.
The impressive Gary Williams caused the home side defensive problems, and was unlucky not to score on a couple of occasions.
Craig Sargeson had a shot cleared off the line and Fitzgerald went close with a brave header, but another defensive blunder allowed Matt Alberry to walk the ball into the net for 5-0 on 82 minutes.
Williams gave the travelling army a moment's cheer just a minute later as he pulled a goal back with a low drive from a tight angle.
Unfortunately, Harrogate went straight back up the field and Iain Dunn's diving header completed the misery.
