FORMER Clitheroe manager Dave Burgess has taken over as the acting chairman of the club.

Burgess quit his job as first team boss just six games into this season due to work commitments. Little more than six months later, he is back.

He takes over from Steve Rush, who announced his decision to quit on Saturday, blaming the pressures of work.

"I had a meeting with them last night," said Burgess, who took his side to the FA Vase semi final and second place in the North West Counties League first division last season, his sole season in charge.

"I said I would take over for 12 weeks just to see what I can do. It won't take up as much time as running the first team.

"I haven't got a clue what it entails but I have been there for over 10 years and I thought it would be a shame for someone from outside the club to come in.

"Steve was chairman for eight years and we have been mates for a long time.

"In 12 weeks time I will look at it again and see if it if the job is what I want and whether I am what the club want."

Burgess, who was reserve team boss for around 10 years before taking over as first team manager, says his first job as chief will be to meet with the various committees at the club to establish how they can be helped between now and the end of the season.

"I can't go to Skelmersdale at the weekend and in that way this job is different to first team manager because then I had to be involved in away games."

"I will meet with the social committee, the ground committee and the executive committee and see what they have got going on and see how I can help them.

"I want to make sure that (team manager) Lee Sculpher has what he needs next season, whatever that may be.

"I know what he wants because I have been first team manager, I know what the requirements are.

"I will do whatever I need to do to make the team achieve what they need to achieve."

Burgess, who is a salesman, has no money of his own to pump into the club but he says that is not necessarily a bad thing.

"It is great when someone comes in with lots of money but if that person pulls his money out you have got nothing.

"The money at Clitheroe has always been self-generating and that is the way they still want to go.

"That way if the chairman goes tomorrow the money is still there."
