A BID for £1.2million for a sports centre in Brierfield is being made by Pendle Council.
The move to provide Brierfield and Reedley with a sports hall is a joint partnership between Pendle Council and Lancashire County Council.
The council is hoping to seize the opportunity to access New Opportunities Fund money with match funding being obtained though other government money.
Councillor Pauline Allen said: "This is fantastic news for Brierfielders. I want to thank Pendle Council for putting Brierfield at the top of their list."
Leader of the Council, Coun Azhar Ali said: "If we can pull this off it will be a great asset for people in the area. Brierfield is beginning to see money and projects coming in to the town and this is only the begining."
Local campaigner Abdul Jabbar, a former youth worker, said: " Young people in the town will be delighted and it will make a real difference to school children in particular. I am pleased that Brierfield is now seeing some good new projects and finally fresh investment."
