POLICE were this morning (Thursday, March 21) trying to identify a male pedal cyclist who suffered serious injuries in a road accident at Westby on Wednesday evening.
The collision, involving the cyclist and a Jaguar XJ8 driven by 53-year-old Magdalene Young of Blackpool Road, Newton, happened at 8.15pm on Wednesday (March 20) on the A583 Preston New Road at Westby, near Blackpool.
A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: "The motor car struck the rear of the pedal cycle and the cyclist was dragged under the car for some distance and sustained serious head injuries."
He said the cyclist was found to be unconscious at the scene and was taken to Royal Preston Hospital. He was still unconscious in hospital at around 3.20am Thursday morning, the spokesman said.
And he said police were "anxious to identify" the cyclist, who was described as 20 years old and riding a black racing type cycle.
