THOUSANDS of Blackpool fans are heading for Cardiff's Millennium Stadium this weekend, for the second time in 10 months.

Last May they returned triumphant after roaring their heroes on to the victory in the play-off final which brought Second Division football to Bloomfield Road this season.

On Sunday the Tangerine "army" will be back in the Welsh capital to support the Seasiders when they play Cambridge United in the LDV Vans Trophy final.

And the omens are good, for Blackpool's supporters have been allocated the North end of the stadium. That is where they were for last May's victory and, in fact, no team whose spectators have occupied the North end has ever lost a final at the Millennium Stadium since it replaced Wembley as soccer's showpiece venue.

The club's official train will leave Blackpool North Station at 8.50am on Sunday and will return from Cardiff at 6pm to arrive back in Blackpool at 10.38pm.

In addition, about 12 official club coaches will be leaving from in front of Bloomfield Road's South Stand at 7am.

Cambridge United are currently bottom of the Second Division and staring relegation the face. Blackpool beat them 3-0 at the Abbey Stadium on February 26. So the Seasiders will be the bookies' favourites, but league form often goes out of the window in one-off games -- particularly cup finals.

But undoubtedly manager Steve McMahon will warn his men against complacency and the Seasiders' fans will make sure that the players feel very much "at home" on their second visit to the magnificent Millennium Stadium.

Bringing the LDV Vans Trophy back to Blackpool on Sunday night would be the icing on the cake in a season which has recently seen the opening of Bloomfield Road's new stands.
