THE sixth and final match in the Bury Societies Winter League took place on Parkers Lodge on Sunday.
The best four results frrom six or on a points basis to determine the top three places.
The fieldside pegs producing the better weights, but the quality bream failed to materialise.
Top weight fell to Jonathan Jowett on the henpins with small roach and perch 3-11-12. In second place Roy Gough 9-9-0 which included a 2lb tench. In third place Dave Bradley 3-2-12, fourth Allan Crook 2-15-4 and fifth Daz Shaw 2-7-0.
Day Shaw winning the league with six points (two first places plus two second placings). In second place Jonathan Jowett eight points (two first places plus two third places), and in third place Dave Jowett (junior) 10 points (one first place, two seconds and a fifth). In fourth place Garry Wright 11 points (1st, 3rd, 3rd and 4th). Junior member Matt Hayes taking part in his first senior match fishing the streamside had a good net of skimmer bream for 2-0-0. The match was fished in mild conditions with heavy rain just prior to the weigh in.
On Tuesday in the National Team Open held on Island Lodge weights improved on the previous week. Paul White taking top weight 6-14-0 small skimmers . In second place Brierley 5-5-0 and third Stefan Gent 2-12-0. In the Pilsworth Fisheries Open fished on the Carp Lake fished by twenty five anglers. Allan Shaw (Gilders Tackle) 15-5-0 had top weight. In second place Garry Tucker (Tri Cast Highfield) 14-8-0 and third D. Morris (Fishermans Way) 12-10-0.
On Saturday the final match of the Browning Cudmore Pairs took place on Brewsters and Suez Canal. Taking top pair on the day with five penalty points, Daz Shaw and Jonathan Jowett (Sensas Garbolino) won the series with 31 points, three points clear of their nearest rivals Nail Machin and Andy Moore (Sensas Garbolino) 34 points. The Suez produced five of the top six individual weights.
1st Carl Lynch (Nathans Derby) 53-12-0; 2nd John Mills (Mansfield) 51-15-0; 6th Daz Shaw (Sensas Garbolino) 27-15-0.
On Saturday Trinity AC fished the clubs first match of the current season on Devilshole Lodge at Ramsbottom. Quality chub featured in the leading weights. John Barlow taking top weight with four chub to weigh 8-4-0. In second place Brian Whittaker, chub, bream, perch for 3-8-0. Third Graham Walsh one chub 2-0-0.
The clubs next match takes place on Saturday. April 6 2002 on Devilshole Lodge, draw 9am, fishing 8.30 to 12.30.

SENIOR SECTION
The club have been extremely busy over the past week improving the parking area on the Island Lodge and clearing the heavy bramble growth inside the gates at Parkers.
On Saturday the club have a working party on Parkers to clear the hardcore outside the gate and generally tidy up flytipping, please meet on the banks at 9am.
The February monthly meeting of the club takes place at Elton Liberal Club on Monday, February 25 at 7.30pm. Will members please note that the River Irwell and Leaks Lodge at Walmerley are closed to fishing till June 16.
The next club match, The Damian Wrall Memorial trophy takes place on Parkers on Sunday, March 31, draw 9am, fishing 10am to 3pm.
Sadly the car dumped on the Island Lodge in a damaged condition was found several days later, but the police responded well and the vehicle was removed last Thursday week.
