MAJOR renovation work will be carried out to a number of old Victorian culverts in Bury and Radcliffe.
But engineers hope that hardly anyone will notice, because most of the work is taking place underground.
In Bury, work to a culvert passing under Moorgate, near Wash Lane, and continuing under Rochdale Road near to Foundry Street, will be done in the culvert itself.
The only major work above ground will be the building of a new manhole at the Back Rochdale Road South and Foundry Street junction.
The junction will be closed to traffic during this work.
In Radcliffe, improvements to the culvert which passes under Cross Lane near Butterworth Street and continues to the River Irwell under the footbridge between Rectory Lane and Milltown Street, will also be done underground.
Temporary traffic lights may be set up at Cross Lane, near Butterworth Street. Other works above ground will be the construction of a new access point at Rectory Lane near Church Street East.
The works will start this month, and last for 16 weeks.
